Elected MEP in the 1999 and 2004 European Elections. President of the Scottish National Party since 2005. Serves on the Fisheries and the Internal Market & Consumer Protection Committees.

Born in Glasgow in 1973, Alyn grew up in Scotland and Saudi Arabia, returning to Scotland in 1986. After completing undergraduate studies at Leeds and Heidelberg, he graduated from Nottingham Law School in 1996 gaining a Masters in European Studies from the College of Europe in Warsaw. Alyn was elected to the European Parliament in 2004 and re-elected twice in the SNP victories of the 2009 and 2014 elections. In Parliament, he is a full member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and a substitute member of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee. He is a full member of both the Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula, and the Delegation for relations with Iraq. He is Honorary President of the Young Scots for Independence as well as a member of the SNP’s National Executive Committee.
