The Post Office at the Neuk on the west end of St. John’s Road is set for closure on the 16th of January. Sign our petition here and let Senior Management and the Chairman of Post Office Ltd. know that Corstorphine wants a high street Post Office here!

Residents were first alerted to the news that we would be losing this community facility in November following the takeover of RS McColls by Morrisons. Councillor Euan Hyslop wrote an open letter to CEO of Morrisons David Potts, requesting that the firm reconsider their decision to close this popular branch.

The letter to Mr Potts has not recieved a response. Around the same time Councillor Hyslop also sought reassurance from the Council’s Contracts Team that the decision to award the lease of a new premises to Morrisons Daily in Pennywell had no bearing on their decision to close the Branch at the Neuk in Corstorphine.

Following discussion on community forums including at the Community Council we contacted the Post Office to request that they consider keeping a Post Office premises open in this part of Corstorphine with the same capacity and service provision.

If the communities of Corstorphine, Craigmount, South Gyle, West Craigs and East Craigs lose this facility with no replacement it will impinge upon the ability of residents to access postal services within their community. It would also be contrary to the core principle of 20-minute neighbourhoods which the Council has been eager to develop for some time and which is woven into the new local development plan for the city, CityPlan 2030. These are ‘places where people can access services which meet daily needs within a 10 minute walk of their house’.

Please sign our petition to demand continued access to postal services across all of Corstorphine and surrounding communities.
